Keurig K200 Vs K250: A Detailed Comparison of Keurig Coffee Maker

Keurig K200 Vs K250

Keurig is one of the most reputable single-serve coffee makers brands and given their annual sales, they are also the industry leader. The company currently has dozens of single-serve coffee maker models in the market, but it is not always easy to choose between them.

One of the reasons why many coffee lovers will have difficulties choosing between different Keurig coffee makers is that the differences between popular models are not always very clear. A good example is the Keurig K200 and K250 which look almost identical.

Besides looking the same, the K200 and K250 have pretty much the same features. And while you will still have a good single-serve coffee maker regardless of what you choose, it is worth knowing the few elements that set them apart as this will make your choice a little easier.

Key Differences

You can hardly tell the Keurig K200 and K250 apart just by looking at them and most people will still not even know the differences even after using them because everything from their overall appearance to the features is quite similar. But, there are a few things that differ between the machines and below we highlight them in more detail.

1. Extra Filter

Water quality always has a huge impact on the coffee taste and quality that you get, and so the fact that the K250 comes with 2 charcoal filters instead of one like the K200 gives it a slight edge.

With the two filters on the K250, you can go for up to 4 months without having to buy any extra replacement filters which saves you cash. But, given that the K200 is relatively more affordable, buying the filter cartridges separately will not sound like a big deal for some users. However, getting them on the pack can still be quite convenient as it saves you time.

2. Descaling Solution

Besides using the best water quality, you also need to clean up your Keurig coffee maker regularly to ensure you get top-notch quality. The K250 helps makes this easier for you as it comes with the Keurig descaling solution.

The cheaper K200 will not include this solution which means you will need to buy it separately when it comes time to descale your machine. But for some users, this will hardly be a concern given that they can still use a homemade white vinegar or lime juicer solution to descale their Keurig coffee makers.

3. Brewing Time

Keurig K200 Vs K250

Although both coffee makers will take a minute to make coffee there is a slight difference in the brew time but many users will hardly even notice it as it is quite minute.

The newer K250 model makes coffee relatively faster than the K200 as it always makes coffee in under 1 minute, but it is only faster by a few seconds which might not make a big difference for some users. But, if you are making cup after cup you might notice the extra speed that comes with the K250 after a while.

4. Weight

You cannot overlook the dimensions when choosing any coffee maker as they will determine how easy it will be to handle and also the amount of space that it will take up in your kitchen.

The dimensions are the same for the two machines as each will be 15 x 9 x 13.7 inches, and this means they are both more compact than what you get from competing brands.

However, Keurig tries to make the K250 relatively lighter than the K200 as it weighs 7.5 pounds which is significantly lighter when compared to the latter's 11 pounds. Hence, being the lighter of the two, the K250 will be generally a more portable single-serve coffee maker.

5. Price

Price is an important factor that will be the main consideration for most coffee lovers when shopping for a new coffee maker. And if it is your main concern, then choosing between these two coffee makers should be easy as they come at different price tags.

The Keurig K250 is the newer of the two coffee makers, and as expected as a new entrant, it is bound to attract a relatively higher price tag. But, like with any other product, the price difference between the two will depend on where you are buying the single-serve coffee makers, and in most instances, the price difference will not be very significant.

While the Keurig K250 is still relatively more expensive than the K200 when buying on Amazon, the price difference is hardly more than $15 which for many people will not make any significant difference.

6. Color Choices

While for some coffee lovers their coffee maker's color does not matter, for some it is crucial as they will want something that complements their kitchen décor or anywhere else they intend to place their machine.

Hence, the fact that the K250 comes in a few more extra color choices than the K200 gives it an extra advantage as it means you are more likely to get something in a shade that you like by choosing it.

Some of the colors that you can expect to get with the K250 are black, white, turquoise, peacock blue, sandy pearl, imperial red, plum grey, and oasis. The K200, on the other hand, comes in black, sandy pearl, orange zest, imperial red, strawberry violet, white and turquoise.

Buying Advice

There is no much difference between Keurig’s K250 and K200, and so ultimately what you choose between the two will mostly be up to your personal preferences or just what appeals most to you.

However, the K200 is the more affordable option and will hence be the better choice for anyone shopping on a tighter budget. And what makes it even better is that it still has most of the basic features that you get on the K250 including the same reservoir capacity and touch display.

But, given the addition of an extra filter and descaling solution, the K250 will save you time and cash as you will not need to buy the two separately, and hence making it more convenient. If you are looking for something that makes coffee a little faster and offers more color options to choose from, the K250 is your best bet.

Also, note that the price difference between the two coffee makers is quite small, and for many users will be insignificant. Given the extra things that you get and consistently faster brew speed with the K250, it does not make sense to forego them just to save a few bucks. Hence, the K250 seems to have an edge over K200 and will, therefore, be a better buy.
